Nags Head, Outer Banks, NC
The Outer Banks of North Carolina offer vacationers great opportunities for family fun. There is plenty to do and see with much of it centered on the beaches and water surrounding the area. Many folks plan their trip with a big family dinner at a waterfront restaurant. This might be a mistake.
On a recent trip to Nags Head, I was given the name of a bar/restaurant to check out. I was told that this place is a must if I was anywhere near Nags Head. It was put on the list and I decided to check it out.
While other members of the family chose to check out Cape Hatteras Lighthouse at the National Seashore, three of us launched our trip to the Blue Moon Beach Grill. When it was located, we realized that we had passed this place many times without ever seeing the sign. It’s in a strip mall two blocks from the beach without a view of the water at the Surfside Plaza. At this point I’m beginning to believe I’ve been punked.
Upon entering the Blue Moon Beach Grill, an instant feeling of warmth and appreciation was found. This place has the vibe of the bar featured in the television show Cheers. While I did not see “Norm” at the bar, the place was packed with patrons at 2 PM. There was a wait for tables but three seats were available at the bar which we took immediately. This was the best decision we made.
Meredith, the bartender that served us was excellent. She is a true artist and crafted tasty adult beverages for us including a Cucumber Gimlet, a Pirate’s Painkiller and a Blue Moon Margarita. These drinks were perfection!
Two of us ordered Mahi fish tacos with rice and beans while another ordered the crab cake sandwich with french fries. The food was absolutely delicious and paired well with our drinks. The atmosphere is friendly and the staff is great. The employees care and it shows. A great atmosphere with seasoned bartenders that can build a cocktail and a kitchen staff producing the best food I had while in the Outer Banks.
Thank you Bob G. for the recommendation. You were correct about this place!
When visiting the Outer Banks near Nags Head, you must stop at this place. If you have a choice sit at the bar and talk to Meredith, she knows the island and provides great advice on things to do in the area while making killer cocktails!
